Cardiac arrest: The most common reasons would be hypertrophic cardiomyopathy, long qt syndrome, and several other genetic defects. The cause is usually a lethal arrhythmia such as ventricular tachycardia or fibrillation. A pre-participation physical will not always find these problems, unless a family history suggests looking specifically for them.
