Heart abnormality: Sudden cardiac death in young athletes is rare, and it is always a tragedy when it occurs. Most of the time this is due to an underlying heart problem that was not known about. HCM: This is genetic disorder. Cause of sudden cardiac death in young athlete. Heart muscle gets hypertrophy. If there are any symptoms of dyspnea. Palpitation or dizziness or passing out should warrant complete evaluation.
