Tmd sufferers experience headaches, inabilty to open wide, shooting pain up the sides of the face and tightness on the jaw muscles. A dentist can help alleviate these symptoms. Decreasing stress, limiting caffeine and chewing gum can help.

Diagnosis first: First, there are a number of things that can cause severe jaw pain. See a TMJ-orofacial pain specialist. Any dentist can be a TMJ expert with the proper training and experience. Most commonly, oral surgeons, prosthodontists, and orofacial pain specialists. Ask your MD, your dentist and your dental society for referrals.
