3-12 months: Scars will generally get worse and remain red for at least 6 weeks before beginning to fade. Using sunscreen and avoidance of tobacco use will help the scar to mature. Vitamins may help to moisturize the wound but will not make it less red. Lasers may be useful for this purpose.
