Scar Revision: Laser scar removal is another popular use of laser technology. Laser treatment reduces the appearance of scars by 50 to 80 percent and helps prevent recurrence. There are also topical creams to help lesson scars like kelocote and mederma. There are no oral therapies that effective.

3-12 months: Scars will generally get worse and remain red for at least 6 weeks before beginning to fade. Using sunscreen and avoidance of tobacco use will help the scar to mature. Vitamins may help to moisturize the wound but will not make it less red. Lasers may be useful for this purpose.
