Panic Defined: Its manifested by recurrent sudden anxiety attacks that peak within 10 minutes and accompanied by at least 4 out of 13 symptoms listed in dsm-4 such as sweating, fast heart rate, chest pain, dizziness, short of breath, etc.Plus at least 1 month of worrying about having others. Best treated with ssris, benzodiazepines and cognitive behavioral therapy.

Panic attacks sxs:: anxiety; rapid, pounding heart; chest tightness/pain; shortness of breath w hyperventilation; hot /cold flashes; butterflies in stomach, nausea or vomiting; tingling of mouth or extremities; ^ sweating; feeling faint or lightheaded; headache or shaking, difficulty swallowing or tight throat; They usually peak w/i 10 mins. Panic Attacks can be treated with psychotherapy & /or psychiatric meds.
