Exercise: While HDL levels are determined by heredity, one can increase HDL by engaging in consistent, vigorous, exercise on a regular basis. Some medications help in raising HDL but do not have positive effects on health through drugs. Alcohol also increases HDL but is not recommended. Many ways: Weight loss, exercise and smoking cessation all can increase HDL levels. While drugs can raise hdl, there is no indication to use meds to raise hdl, and some of the beneficial effects of these meds may be independent of the HDL raising. Diets increased in saturated fat can also raise the HDL cholesterol, but may also raise LDL and in some cases triglycerides. If HDL is low see your doctor.
