Hypotension,: High block, sometimes requiring intubation, failed block, block not lasting long enough so general anesthesia is required.

Several, but rare: Probably the most common is headache, which happens in about 1/100 patients. It's not dangerous and will go away, but can be severe. Other risks include bleeding, infection, temporary breathing difficulty, failure to provide the desired pain relief, and damage to nerves or spinal cord. Make sure a board-certified anesthesiologist is in charge of your care if you need a spinal or epidural.

Many: But they rarely happen. Infection at site of needle puncture or tissues surrounding the spinal nerves (arachnoiditis). Headache is there is spinal fluid leakage and this can be addressed. Extremely rare is damage to nerves. Sterile technique is important as well as an experienced and well trained anesthesiologist.
