My partner has a deep red / purple bruise like rash on her hip. it's not sore & the skin isn't broken. is there a medical reason for this?

Bumping into : something. It is likely that she bumped into something. It should resolve over days to weeks, depending on the size of the bruise. It will also go through color changes. If she develops more bruises without trauma, she should see a doctor.
