A member asked:

9 mm uncalcified lung nodule followed for years said to be hematoma now how would they know unless they biopsies despite ct/pt scans could it still be cancerous regardless of no growth?

No growth: No growth/stability for many years typically indicates benign nodule. Pet-ct would likely would be negative. Long term stability suggests indolent and likely benign nodule that would not take up radiotracer on pet. Also, 9 mm is size that may be below threshold of pet. If nodule looks benign and has been entirely stable, it's almost certainly benign.

Very unlikely: Lung cancer grows, doesn't stay stable for years. Ctand pet scans are excellent (not perfect) at picking up worrisome nodules, especially of significant size (say 9mm). Biopsies carry some risk-collapse lung, bleeding, infection, so they are done if needed in questionable cases, or to confirm diagnosis of cancer fto plan and gauge treatment.
