A member asked:

What causes cysts on thyroid ?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Thyroid cysts: Many people have a goiter (thyroid enlargement) and sometimes this is a multinodular goiter. Sometimes these nodules form pockets or cysts. These fluid filled cysts can sometimes get large. Usually, this is a benign condition. Rarely, a thyroid cancer can be partially cystic. A multinodular goiter and thyroid cysts need to be evaluated carefully with a thyroid ultrasound and needle biopsy.
