Depends: Disc herniations that are large enough can cause nerve compression that will cause referred pain along the pathway of the nerve. The shoulder is mainly covered by nerves coming from the neck. There should also be referred pain into the upper arm or even hand. Isolated burning tho the back of the shoulder and upper back may be less likely due to a disc hernia tion.
