May be safe but...: The otc cold medicines have been used widely in the past without proven benefit. Gentle bulb suction and running humidifier for a short period would be safe and effective. Should an infant experience nasal drainage or cough over a week, seeking medical attention would be prudent.

I am glad you are: Worried and being cautious. True it is not recommended because most of these medications have not been tried and tested amongst children less than two years old! that is why you see " ask your pediatrician " on all the medicine packaging and bottles. However , it is safe to use dimetapp under your doctors recommendation.
