Tic, tic, twitch: Twitching confined to the muscles immediately around the eyeballs is usually benign, caused by a variety of things such as stress, sleep deprivation, excess caffeine, or habit tics. If you have any other muscles involved besides those "periorbital" ones, then something else is wrong. Local nerve irritants or blood vessel compression of nerves near the brain stem are decidedly rarer.
