A member asked:

Constipated, very gassy and have pain on my right rib cage towards the middle and hip. is it normal to have that pain while constipated?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Yes, but...: Constipation often causes gas pains, particularly on the right side where the build up of pressure from the column of solid stool backed up in the colon may interfere with gas making its way out in the normal fashion. The large amount of bacteria causes more gas too than usual--gentle laxatives may help, but discuss with your doc as other things might be going on as well.
