How do they do the surgery to fix craniosynostosis?

Depends: There are two basic approaches. One is an open reconstruction where the skin of the skull is pulled back to expose the sutures & parts of the skull are removed, reshaped & replaced with material that prevents the edges from closing together.Another approach uses a video camera & cutting devices on a long tubes inserted under the scalp.Much of the same work is done but recovery time can be shorter.

Craniosynostosis: It really depends on the type of synostosis and what areas of the head and orbits are affected. Also the age of the child at the time of surgery can be a factor. A consultation with a craniofacial center can answer many of the questions as to surgery.
