Hypertension: Pre-eclampsia is a constellation of symptoms that arise during pregnancy. It is most likely caused by substances secreted by the placenta causing damage to maternal blood vessels. As a result, blood pressure rises, protein is noted in the urine, liver enzymes may also rise. The only cure is delivery and this is indicated if symptoms are severe.

Blood pressure +: Preeclampsia is the combination of high blood pressure and increases urine protein that can happen in the latter part of pregnancy. Depending on how severe someone's case is, it can require bed rest at home or in the hospital. Severe cases can cause poor fetal growth, decreased platelet counts, worsening liver function, and decreased urination. It can also causes severe maternal symptoms.
