It may: It is a destructive infection and at times is lifts your nails off of the nail bed. The nail detaches and eventually may fall off. Your nail will get really brittle and crack very easily. You should really consider treatment of the fungus to prevent further complications when you get older. I recommend you see a podiatrist and discuss the treatment options available.

It is possible: If a toenail infection becomes severe enough, it could lead to loss of the nail. Toenail fungus often time cases the nail to be brittle and loose form the nail bed. The slightest amount of trauma could cause the nail to be completely detached causing loss of the entire nail. Get it taken care of by a professional to avoid preventable complications.
