Not definitely: Untreated women who acquired infection in 1st trimester in 10-25% had congenital infections in their babies. In the 2nd trimester its 30-54%. In the 3rd trimester its 60-65%. Infant disease is more severe if toxoplasmosis is acquired by the mother in the 1st or 2nd trimesters. Most infants born of mothers infected in the 3rd trimester have subclinical infection but still need treatment.
