Around 6 months: Short answer: when an infant has enough upper body control to indicate hunger and satiety, has doubled his birth weight, & can push the food from the spoon to his throat. However, the american academy of pediatrics recommends breastfeeding as the sole source of nutrition till about 6 months & continuing till 12 months. 4to6 months age: Not before 4 months but some babies will be able to start stage one baby foods at 4 months and others may need at 6 months. But most babies will be ready for baby foods at 6 months, but you can try feeding some babies with baby foods at 4 months.

Baby food: If a baby is exclusively breast-fed, there is no need to start on baby food until 6 months unless the parents wish to do so. For babies who are exclusively formula fed, I recommend starting baby cereal at 4 months of age.
