Change your focus: Eye strain occurs when you remain focused at the same position for too long. The eyes tend not to blink as much and the muscles that help control focus get "tired". To help prevent this, look far off (other side of the room, out a window) for a minute or so every 15 to 30 minutes. Artificial tears placed every 30-60 minutes can also relieve the strain. See an eye doctor if it persists.

Rest: Our eyes are designed to see things in 3d. When you look at a computer/book etc for a long time (a 2d surface) you can strain your eyes or get dry eyes. Every 20 minutes rest your eyes for 20 seconds by looking at something at least 20 feet away.
