San Joaquin Valley..: Fever is a fungal infection of humans (and some animals) caused by spores of coccidiodomycosis inhaled from soil. Many infections are totally without symptoms, some others can cause pneumonia which usually resolves without therapy but some infections lead to spread (dissemination) of the fungus outside the lung to the nervous system, bone or skin. Antifungals such as voriconazole are used.
