Red blood cell size.: Mcv, or "mean cell volume" is the average size of a red cell. It is used in determining the cause of anemia, if present. Smaller cells are seen with iron deficiency and some inhereted anemias. High MCV can mean B12 or Folic Acid deficiency, alcohol abuse, and many other causes.

Hi Does Mcv fluctuate? I have had a few blood test and they are all different. Ranging from 81-88. I do give blood but I have waited longer i between donations before this last test and my mcv was lower.Id have thought it should be higher?
