A member asked:

Why might i need a ct of the abdomen with contrast instead of without?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Other Way Around: The best cts are done with contrast: IV dye for eval. Of blood vessels & blood flow; oral dye to better see the intestines. Rarely, no contrast is better, like when we are looking for kidney stones. Furthermore, some people have dye allergies, kidney problems that can worsen with IV dye, or we cannot wait the time it takes to give oral contrast.
