Cyst: Could be a number of different type of cysts orlesions pressing on the sensory nerve. Would be better served by seeing your podiatrist for a thorouh examination and diagnosis.

Bone spur: It is possible to have bone spurs on top of the foot which can be a result of a structural deformity, injury or arthritis. Shoes commonly compress the tissues above and around the spur. If the compression occurs on a sensory nerve, then the type of symptoms you describe can occur.
