Low but a CONCERN: The chances of dying from a dental abscess is low but definitely a possibility and happens everyday in the world and United States. Certain infections can cause more likely severe complications that can lead to death than others but it's important that everyone understands the oral bacteria is connected to the rest of body so infections can definitely affect everything and death is possible.

It depends : It depends on the direction of the drainage of the infection. When the infection drain internally, it can damage vital sturcture in the neck area or it can get into the blood causing septicemia (infection in the blood) which can go to the brain and cause brain infection, etc. Best, do not wait 'till you have a tooth abscess. Go see a dentist regularly and take care of small cavities early.
