Drainage: By, "popping" abscess you release the pressure from the infection reducing the pain. Pressure = pain. Source of the infection must be addressed.

Abscess Popped: "popping" a dental abscess is only one step in the attempt to eliminate a dental infection. It's also crucial to have a proper antibiotic prescribed in order to prevent the spread of that infection along with eliminating the cause. Otherwise the infection will likely reoccur and often with a greater vengeance. Merely popping an infection will not resolve the problem.

You feel better, but: it is a temporary relief only. If you have a dental abscess then you should get it treated by the dentist. This is not only to relieve pain, but to prevent possible serious complications to your general health.
