Sun and Smoking: Premature aging of the skin can be due to certain genetic factors which we can't control, but is certainly exacerbated by smoking and sun exposure which can be stopped. The damage done however is not really reversible, but can possibly be improved with weapons grade skin care, lasers, and various rejuvenating surgical procedures.

The big two reasons: In my practice are excessive sun exposure and smoking. Certainly, there is a genetic component, but avoiding smoking and excessive sun exposure can go a long way toward preventing premature skin aging.
