Infection: It is possible infection is not fully resolved. Pain can also occur from the trauma of the procedure itself to the tissues beyond the tip of the tooth. If you are able to take them, consider anti inflammatory meds like ibuprophen. If the tooth is hitting first, it should be shortened. If the pain is improving, try to relax and allow things to heal. And call the dentist's emergency number.

Pain medication: Root canals are sucessful only 90% of the time due to the intricacies of the root structure. If a dentist retreats a root canal the prognosis is less than 90 %. Call your dentist for pain medicationand or an antibiotic, they should have an emergency number. Onlrooty way to know if the treament is successfull is an x-ray of the tooth and going over your symptoms. Are you seeing an endodontist.
