Not quite the same: Since a pulmonary embolus and a stroke come from somewhat different mechanisms, the way to prevent them is a bit different. Suffice it to say that eating a diet that promotes a healthy weight, prevents obesity, diabetes, and high cholesterol or blood pressure will be the best bet at avoiding these conditions. A diet rich in fruits, vegetables, and fiber, and low in fats and carbohydrates is good!

Healthy lifestyle: These are conditions with a bit different risk factors. In general, a healthy lifestyle (eating fruits, vegetables, low salt, low cholesterol, low calorie diets) and tons if exercise, will keep the risks low for both. If you have high blood pressure or diabetes, controlling those will also prevent risk of stroke.
