Antiinflammatory med: After tooth extraction- there is inflammation. So an anti-inflammatory medication is very important. Ibuprofen or Naproxen are both available without prescription and have prescription strengths as well. Acetaminophen is a good pain reliever but not anti-inflammatory. So taking both can help- or a prescription strenght pain reliever is often needed - usually a narcotic analgesic for a short time.

It varies: From person to person, but narcotic medications are usually prescribed.
