Maxillofacial surger: A complicated question. Reconstructive surgery to correct jaw or facial deformities is called orthognathic (lit. "straight jaw") surgery and involves making precise bone cuts called osteotomies in order to move the jaws up, down, forward or back, then holding them there with titanium plates and screws. It often also involves placement of implants such as cheek or chin implants for augmentation.

Reposition the jaws: Facial and jaw deformities can be corrected by repositioning the upper and or lower jaw with or without chin surgery. Facial implants and or facial fat grafting can be used as well depending on the extent of the deformity. Syndromes affecting the upper face as well can be corrected with the above in addition to repositioning the parts of the eye sockets (orbits).
