The balance between : Risk of a scan and benefit of finding out about nodes tips in favor of getting a ct scan + contrast. One + & - minus contrast doubles exposure, and might be needed to see calcifications. One should not trivialize exposure especially with ct's, but when they are indicated, they are invaluable.
