See doc: The proventil (albuterol) is just a rescue medicine and you may need a preventative maintenance medicine to get you asthma under control. However, in an acute attack, if not improving, seek immediate medical help.

Asthma care: Today's routine asthma care is based on a daily maintenance medication, usually an inhaled steroid, and occasional use of a rescue inhaler (proventil). Some patient use both in a combined inhaler (Dulera). You should meet with your PCP and bring along a summary of related symptoms, pattern of how you use the present meds, and other questions you may have.
