A member asked:

Why do infants have lower blood pressure than adults when their heart and respiratory rates are higher?

A doctor has provided 1 answer

Needs of the system: The blood pressure needs to be just high enough to push the blood around through the vessels & supply the needs of the body.Babies have shorter & narrower pipes to push the blood through so the pressure can be lower.Babies have a faster metabolism than adults, & the higher heart & respiratory rates that add the oxygen (at low pressure) to help them grow.
