Would e-cigarettes be better for copd?

Should be: Regular cigarettes are hard to beat in terms of the damage they cause to the lungs and other parts of the body. Anything that helps with quitting smoking is welcome. My patients who have used it have had a positive experience.

Better than smoking: Ideally, i would love for you to quit tobacco smoking altogether. But, i know how difficult of a challenge this can be for many people. Thus, an e-cigarette is a possible option. At least, you are not inhaling all those horrific chemicals and cancer causing agents that are loaded in tobacco smoke.

Yes and no: No cigarettes are good for copd. If e-cigarettes can help you quit the real ones, that is a positive.

Not particularly: Many COPD patients are taking inhalers whose actions are directly opposite that of nicotine. This may reduce or even cancel the drug's effectiveness.
