Surgical removal: Treatment of melanoma generally involves surgical removal of the lesion, examination of the regional lymph nodes to assess for spread. For more info see this site. http://www.dermnetnz.org/hair-nails-sweat/melanoma-nailunit.html.

Dr. Singh is correct, surgery is the primary treatment for melanoma. Subungual melanomas are not generally more aggressive than melanoma elsewhere. However, because of the location they often are not noticed until they are more advanced, which makes the problem more serious. Lymph node evaluation is generally considered for melanomas 1 mm or deeper but can be considered depending on the patient. It is a helpful staging tool but has yet to proven to improve survival. I hope you are getting good care!

Surgery to cure: You would need curative surgical resection with negative margin. Also, just fyi- subungual melanoma is frequently harboring activating mutations in c-kit. This is something that is also important to be checked on the cancer cells- as it may be useful for future treatment if needed. Read more- www.Cancer.Net, www.Nccn.Com, www.Cancer.Org good luck.
