Ask the Dr.: Whether a person with TB needs isolation, or stays in isolation, and for how long, depends on what kind of TB he has, what was found on his sputum smear(s), what his treatment plan is, how he is doing with the treatment, and the assessment of his doctors. Isolation times may range from 1-6 weeks.
