What is a "high grade sprain of the mcl" exactly ? what is its equivilancy on the numbered grading system of 1 o 3?

MCL Sprain: The medial collateral ligament ( mcl) like any ligament can be sprained which is actually a tearing of fibers of the tendon. A high grade sprain would correspond to grade 2 or 3

High grade =3=bad: The grading scale is based on finding on mri--grade 1 = minor sprain, grade 2=severe prain/partial tear, and grade 3 =complete disruption of the ligament. In general, isolated mcl injury is not repaired, but for athletes surgical correction is often recommended. If you are having trouble, consult your doc--an orthopedic surgeon/sports medicine doc maybe needed. Good luck.
