Mole or Melanoma?: What were you told exactly? If you have a melanoma, that is very serious and needs immediate attention and treatment.

Get it biopsied: Subungual melanomas are frequently misdiagnosed because there are other things that make brown spots under the nail. The only way to be certain is to have it biopsied. The only time that i will follow a brown nail spot under the nail is if there is obvious trauma (hammer - door, etc.) if it is a hematoma it will move out toward the tip of the nail as the nail grows. Otherwise - biopsy!
