Med discontinuation: The second opinion doctor is likely not convinced of your diagnosis and wants to see what your intraocular pressures are when you are not on medications. A short time off medication will not cause you any harm, will provide useful information to your glaucoma specialist, and may lead to permanent discontinuation of the med depending on the findings.

Yes: Glaucoma specialist wants to assess your condition without the pressure-lowering effect of the Xalatan (latanoprost) eyedrop. This is reasonable, and unless your intraocular pressure (iop) was very high, say over 35 mm hg, it is safe to stop your drops for a month to allow a reassessment. It can be a difficult decision as to whether drops are needed in a particular cases, and doctors opinions may vary.
