Often normal: It's normal for babies to turn red, grunt, and cry before having a bowel movement. They need to learn to use their abdominal muscles just like they learn to use their arms and their legs. If, however, the stool is hard and comes out like little pebbles, then the baby is constipated and your doctor can help. So long as the stool is soft, he's fine.
