Many causes: Hypothyroidism (an under-active thyroid) can cause elevated triglycerides (tg's). Many other things, however can also cause high tg's. Common causes are alcohol , estrogen, some dermatologic agents ( accutane), kidney disease, diabetes, other medications such as beta blockers, or drugs used to treat hepatitis or hiv. There are genetic causes, less common. See a qualified health care provider.
