X-ray: An x-ray can be performed to determine if it is fractured. There are many different types of injuries. Each type of injury requires has its own plan of care. Treatment may vary depending on the diagnosis. Have it evaluated by your physician and get the appropriate diagnosis and plan of care.

A 22-year-old member asked:
How long will it take to heal a fractured knee?

3 months: Typically fractures of any part of the body will take 2-3 months to heal. The bone will continue to remodel for up to 12-18 months. Cartilage injuries associated with fractures in the knee can take longer to heal if it is a contusion (6 months) or may not heal if the trauma was significant enough to cause cartilage cell death. In that case, posttraumatic arthritis may occur.

Depends: This will depend on the type of fracture, degree of fracture, any open fracture or contaminated fracture and your general health and co-morbid conditons and medications. Bone usually heals in 4-6 weeks. It can be sooner or later. Discuss this with your surgeon.

Depends: A fracture of the knee can mean so many things. What is fractured, is it displaced, is it a weight bearing region, is it comminuted, is it intraarticular. These are important questions that can be answered by a orthopedic surgeon. These are great questions to ask also. For the most part, fractures in your age group will heal in approximately 2 moths with correct treatment.
