Use your finger to check the shin bone and note of any significant deformity. If the anterior border is smooth and there is no gross deformity, tibia (shin bone) fracture is less likely. The initial bruise is always extending down the by gravity but the color will change slowly to purple then yellowish green. If you have any doubt, go to urgent care for a quick X-ray check.
