Unlikely, but can!: This low a dose almost never causes liver issues. An SGPT level of 48 is barely elevated. Could be, but unlikely to be ibuprophen. That being stated, repeat in four weeks! you may have had a mild hepatotrophic virus! if still elevated, stop ibuprophen and retest! there are many other nsaids for arthritis!

Probably not: An SGPT level of 48 in itself is not very problematic. If you are taking only 400mg of Ibuprofen daily it is not very likely to be causing this rather small rise in sgpt. However, i would be cautious in any prolonged use of these types of drugs since they can cause GI bleeds, and potential cardiac problems in those with cardiac disease.Talk to your physician.

Elevated SGPT: The Ibuprofen probably isn't causing the elevated sgpt. Primary causes are more likely alcohol consumption, hepatic disease or recent heart attack. Your levels are not too high but now is the time to address the underlying issues, contact your doctor for a full medical examination and benefit from getting an early start on living healthy.
