A member asked:

How long does untreated pneumonia take to turn into acute respiratory distress syndrome?

Generally no: Acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) is a rapid process leading to respiratory failure and even death. Most causes will be completely unrelated to the lungs (major trauma, strokes, pancreatitis, aspiration). Very bad lung infections that lead to sepsis (whole body infection) can lead to ards.
