A member asked:

Is it possible for people with acute respiratory distress syndrome who are in a coma to wake up?

2 doctors weighed in across 2 answers

Absolutely: The coma is frequently drug induced to allow systems to recover. ARDS is frequently able to be improved with treatment.

Yes: Often, coma is induced by medications to help healing and is completely reversible. Even if not induced by medication, patients can still wake up (and usually do) as they get better.
