I have just been prescribed elmiron (pentosan). i have not been thoroughly assessed to see if i have ic, is this safe? i still don't think my doc. is listening.

Safe..yes?necessary?: It might be safe but i would think "is it the right medication?". Elmiron (pentosan) has been shown to help but takes about 3 months before it starts helping with real ic. A lot of times it is used in conjunction with other medications and it is pretty pricey. For the assessment of a diagnosis of ic, need to have at least a urine evaluation, symptom evaluation, and bladder evaluation.
