what is the function of a thyroid gland?

1 doctor answer
Dr. Leroy Fleischer

Controls metabolism: The thyroid gland controls your body's metabolism. An under-active thyroid can cause weight gain, for instance. Your doctor can order simple blood tests to check on your thyroid.

There are also many other functions that the thyroid can affect. for instance your heart rate, your appetite, how happy or how sad you feel. It can affect menstrual cycles and bowel function. It can become overactive or underactive and how t affects you depends on its level of functioning.
