They don't: They usually don't. Acute ronchitis should generally not be treated with antibiotics. Studies show that antibiotics are no better than placebo for acute bronchitis, so when they're prescribed, they're essentially placebos. Bronchodilators are sometimes more effective for certain times of allergic bronchitis.
